In January of 1980, David McMillen and Charles Hall opened the doors of their dream, to provide a local alternative for the development of custom machinery for industry. Their diverse experiences in industry had led them to the recognition that their skills were complimentary, and that by joining forces, they could build a successful business.

The goal of this venture was to build small pieces of equipment and machine parts for local  industry while developing the resources to service a customer base interested in the best technology and equipment available. Starting with only basic equipment, the company has developed a fully operational machine shop, a computer assisted engineering department, and a sales force covering primarily the Southeastern United States, but reaching an international market including the Western Hemisphere, Europe and Asia.

HMC Technologies started out with 2 employees and a 2,500 square foot building, which was built  by the employees. In 1983, an additional 5,000 square feet were added. In 1992, 16,000 square feet were added; 5,000 feet of which were added to provide office space. An addition of 10,000 square feet was made in 1997 creating a 33,500 square feet workspace staffed with approximately 100 employees.
